Apologies as Prelude

I began my apologizing stream of thought seconds after accepting an invitation to play my first round of golf in 11 months. I must warn my host, I thought, that I haven’t played in a long while, that I wasn’t as good as I used to be, that I was always a short hitter but have gotten shorter and so couldn’t conceivably play the tees he plays, that I am un-likely to even break 100, that while my shoulder is healing, I won’t really know how it will react to the strain till I play and anyway, my hip is worse than my shoulder and that is what I am focusing my physical therapy on and this has cut short whatever practicing I could do, not that the cold weather has been any help. I am really hoping to not hurt someone out there, I’d add.
