Putting the Spoon Down

Imagine the uproar in the diet industry if the whole problem could be solved by following this instruction: put your spoon or fork down between each mouthful.
People would recall, back in the old days, the folly of Fast Food.
I grew up eating very fast, as fast as possible. Though I never missed a meal, though food has never been in short supply in my very lucky life, I’ve acted as if it was. I’ve thought about this often and I attribute my velocity and that of my family in general, to having 5 boys in our family plus my sister and two parents. I feel, now that I consider it further, that I needed to be always thinking ahead, to seconds, to desert, to the next meal.
It is funny that I’ve rushed through thousands of meals and I love to eat and hate to see a meal over. It’s as if I’ve been in such a hurry to find out what happens at the end of movie, that I fast forward to the end – and miss the movie.
