Concepts

Several weeks ago I wrote this from Thich Nhat Hanh in my notebook:
“So we must be careful. We must not imprison ourselves in concepts.”
Then the other day I had my troublesome hip x-rayed and got the bad news very quickly: arthritis. I knew something was wrong – after a year of therapy it wasn’t getting better – but I was still bummed.
This morning I was reading the slender Monk and as if he was reading my mind:
“Perfect Health” is just an idea. Learn to live in peace with whatever ailments you have. Try to transform them but don’t suffer too much.
I walked out of prison laughing at myself..
